Lemuel Clifton Lawrence's Obituary
Lemuel Clifton Lawrence, age 91 of Galax, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 31, 2014 in the Friendship Health and Rehab Center in Roanoke, Virginia.
Clifton was born in Cambria, Virginia on September 24, 1922 to the late Lem H. and Vinnie Taylor Lawrence. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Linwood "Doodle" Lawrence and three sisters Mildred Campbell, Anna Byrd and Margaret Winesett.
He is survived by his brother Cullen Lawrence of Galax, Virginia and several nieces and nephews.
Clifton was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, and upon his discharge received excellent care and support over many years from the U.S.Department of Veterans Affairs and the VA Medical Center in Salem. The family also wishes to thank the staff at Friendship for their care of Clifton.
A graveside service will be held Friday, June 6, 2014 at 3:00 PM in the Felts Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. James Cowley officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund or to the American Legion Post 245, Galax, Virginia.
