Obituary

Lelia Virginia Cornett Poe left this world on October 12, 2015 to finally be united with all those whom she loved and missed who were waiting for her in heaven. Born August 4, 1917 to Hoye and Pricilla Cornett, the oldest of four children.

She was a loving, caring beautiful example of the love of God and cared more for others than she did herself for every day of her 98 years upon this earth. She was a home-maker and care-giver most of her life. She loved to garden and cook for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin and friend of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoye and Pricilla Cornett, her precious husband James Kyle Poe and her darling son, Ralph Gene Poe whom she missed and longed to see. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herman Cornett and his wife Aldena Cornett, Delmer Cornett and his wife Jamalee, her sister Rubye Boyer and her husband Billy, as well as many other family members of whom she looked forward to seeing again.

Left to cherish her memory and to miss her joyful laugh and infectious smile are her son, Bobby Poe and wife, Marlene, of Edgewater, Maryland, her grandchildren Gina Parish and husband Randy of Mount Airy, NC; Jamie Poe and wife, Lisa of Mount Airy, NC; Lessa Marsh and husband Michael of Mount Airy, NC; Penny Maines of North Wilkesboro, NC; Kim Lerka of Ocean City, New Jersey; Gary Abernathy of Maryland. She was the proud great-grandmother of Corey Meadows and his wife Kasey; Tenielle Jarrell and husband, Josh; Laura Hodges and husband Jerry, JK Martin, Stephen Poe and wife, Abigail; Mollie Poe, Grant Abernathy, Drew Abernathy and Alex Lerka. She especially loved her great-great grandchildren Jansen Jarrell, Carson Meadows and Jaxon and Lexie Hodges. She loved her nieces Shelby Singleton, Trish Dingus, Mary Davis and nephews Larry Cornett, Dean Cornett and Randy Cornett as if they were her own, as well as all of her great nieces and nephews.

A joyous memorial of her life will be held at Vaughan-Guynn Chapel on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Randy Parish will be officiating at the service. The family wishes to thank the caring and loving staff of Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center for all their excellent care for our beloved mother and grandmother. May God Bless You All!
