Obituary

Leighton Lee "Moe" Weaver departed this life and went to be with his heavenly Father on
December 7, 2014 after living a blessed life of 88 years. He was the husband of Anne Hill
Weaver and the father of five children. He was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle,
and friend. He never met a stranger and touched many lives in the 88 years he was here on this
earth.

Moe was born September 14, 1926 to Donald Watson and Edna lzetta Weaver, Sr. of Galax.
His grandfather was the founder of Edwards Chair Company in 1913. His father later ran a
general goods store in downtown Galax in the 1930s. He was preceded in death by his parents
and three brothers, Donald Watson Weaver, Jr., Edward Morris Weaver, and William Cosby
Weaver.

He attended Gettysburg College and the University of Virginia and served in the U.S. Army Air
Corps in 1944 -1945.

Moe retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 after 31 years of service. He was the city mail
carrier and walked 12 miles a day carrying a mail bag on his shoulder. Truly rain, sleet, or snow
didn't stop Moe from delivering the mail. After retiring from the post office, he needed something to keep him busy, so he went to work at Twin County Regional Hospital in purchasing. This helped him to continue to keep in touch with the community that he had so grown to love. Moe retired from TCRH in 2000.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Anne Hill Weaver. He is also survived by his children and spouses, Ed Weaver, Andy (Todd)Weaver, John Weaver, Pat (Tom)Wood, and Robin (Phil) Pack, 11 grandchildren, Megan Weaver Patton, Erin Weaver, Heather (Greg) Powell, Grace Weaver, Lacy Weaver, Tyler Wood, Travis Wood, Mallory Wood, Austin Pack, Caleb Pack, Carleigh Pack, and two great-grandsons, Xander Patton and Vincent Powell. He had special nieces and nephews, Lee Weaver, Donald (Mary) Weaver, III; Edward (Pat) Weaver, Julia Weaver, Anne Rash, and David Hill.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, December 13, at First Baptist Church, Galax. The family will receive friends and visitors from 11:00-1:00, preceding the 1:00 service.

He dearly loved Galax and was proud of the four generations who graduated from Galax High
School. He was an avid Galax sports fan. Moe always said if someone visited Galax once, they
would always try to figure a way to come back.

ln lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to be made to the Galax Foundation for Excellence in Education for a scholarship named in memory of Leighton "Moe" Weaver. Contributions can be mailed to: P.O. Box 487, Galax, VA 24333.
