Obituary

Leamon Burl Lawson joined the Church Triumphant on December 23, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 25, 1924 in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Troy and Elva Bryant Lawson. In addition to his parents he was preceded by a daughter Louise Barbara Lawson; sisters Thelma Harmon and Vila Edwards; and brother Sterling Lawson.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruby Edwards Lawson, son & daughter-in law Leamon Burl & Joyce Lawson II of Kingsport, TN, and daughter Jeannie Lawson of Carroll County. Five grandchildren, Leamon B. & Susan Lawson, III; Mark E. & Elizabeth Lawson, Sherri & Travis Leming, Jordan Hall & Jeremy Hall survive along with sister Zula Coleman, sisters & brothers-in-law Pansy & Coolidge Griffin, Maxie & Bob Vaughn, Ina & Lester Horton.

Nine Great Grandchildren: Grant, Sofia, Isaac, Micah, Lilia & Jackson Lawson; Avery, Parker & Carson Leming also survive.

He was well known for his lifelong dedication to helping family, church, friends and acquaintances in any manner that he could and his smile whenever he met anyone.
He was a dedicated longtime member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church.
He was employed at Carnation Evaporated Milk Plant in Galax for 35 years prior to its closing. He was also a carpenter, painter, auto mechanic and had many other learned skills and always took great pride in everything that he did.
The celebration of his life will be Saturday, December 27 at 11:00 AM at Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Woodlawn, VA. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the church. The final resting place will be at Monta Vista Memory Gardens.

Pastor Gloria Rhudy will officiate with assistance from former pastor Terri Gregory and Charles Smythers.
The family always appreciates flowers but our preference is either a memorial contribution to the Woodlawn United Methodist Church, P O Box 75, Woodlawn, VA 24381 or St. Jude's Children's' Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Any of these will celebrate his life and be a fitting memorial.
