Larry Joe
Hicks
March 23, 1941 – September 14, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe, who left us on Saturday September 14, 2024 at the age of 83. He was the kindest person you'd ever meet, always ready to lend a helping hand and spread kindness wherever he went.
Joe was born on March 23, 1941 in Fries Virginia to Arliss and June Elizabeth Jennings Hicks.
Joe lived a life of service and compassion. He proudly served in the Navy for a few years, where he demonstrated the same dedication and selflessness that he carried throughout his life. His time in the Navy was marked by bravery and camaraderie, and he often spoke fondly of the friendships and experiences he gained during those years.
After his service, Joe continued to impact the lives of many through his unwavering generosity. Whether it was assisting a neighbor, volunteering, or simply offering a kind word, his actions spoke volumes about his character. He truly believed in making the world a better place, and helping anyone he could.
Joe was always a family man, a source of strength and love for those around him. He is preceded in death by wife Carolyn Hicks. He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Mary Thomas. His only son, Larry Hicks and wife Jeannie Hicks. Granddaughters Savannah and husband Omar Ramirez; Avery and husband Matthew Richardson. Great grandchildren RaeLynn Richardson, Ayva Ramirez, and Hayden Richardson. Also, a special cousin Lowana Burcham. We will forever hold dear the memories of his warm smile and endless compassion. His legacy of kindness and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Joes remarkable life at a funeral service Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with the Rev. Matt Linkous and Dr. Marc Bewley officiating. Burial will follow in the Fries Cemetery with Military Rites by the Grayson VFW Post 7726.The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until time for the funeral service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the VFW, a cause that was close to his heart.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find solace in knowing that Joes spirit will continue to inspire us to live with the same kindness and generosity that he embodied every day of his life.
Rest in peace, pawpaw. Your legacy of love and service will never be forgotten.
