Larry "Chief" Douglas Fowler, Sr.

November 24, 1941 — June 12, 2026

Fries

Larry “Chief” Douglas Fowler Sr. 84 of Fries, Va. entered heaven on June 12, 2026. He was born in Stevens Creek, Va. November 24, 1941 to the late Earnest Fowler and Geneva (Jones) Patton. He passed after a sudden escalation of Acute Leukemia at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem, NC. While unexpected, his family was able to surround him while he peacefully transitioned from this life to his eternal reward. He was preceded in death by his three precious angel babies, born into the arms of Jesus; Baby Fowler, Ty Fowler, and Kacee Fowler. His beloved step-mother Norma Fowler, his beloved sisters Teresa Patton, Tina Johnson, and Diane Fowler. Larry is survived by his wife, Kathy (Courter) Fowler of 49 years. His three children; Shelley (widow of Ronald) Burns, Larry (Anita) Fowler Jr. and Laurie Fowler. His six grandchildren; Erika (Benjamin) Smith as whom was affectionately referred to as #1, Matthew (Tara) Burns, Blake Garcia, Victoria (Kevin) Fuchsgruber, Lindsay Fowler and Logan Fowler. His eight great-grandchildren; Madison (Matthew) Leavitt, Kennedy Berry, Grace Burns, Cary Burns, Payton Fuchsgruber, Charlotte Fuchsgruber, Elijah Burns, and Owen Fuchsgruber. His two great-great grandchildren; Brianna Berry and Opal Leavitt. His siblings, John (Donna) Fowler, Gail (Kenny) Allison, Jackie (Karl) Landgraf, Sandra Patton, and Kenneth (Dottie) Fowler, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Larry was so very proud of his children and grandchildren. He always took the opportunity to brag about all of them. When he found out that he was going to be blessed with great-great grandchildren, he was so excited and honored to be able to live to see five generations because in his words, “I just keep getting greater and greater”. Larry loved the Lord with all his heart and faithfully served Him and His church. His favorite scripture was Exodus 3:14 because of the power and authority God exhibited in His declaration.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Jeff Wilson; Pastor Gary Riffe and Pastor Christian Wilson officiating. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church.

While the world is a little less bright (and a lot more quiet) without him here, we will hold to His unfailing Word, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Larry is whole and victorious and we will worship together again, on that golden shore.
