Larry Wayne Akers age 62 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Larry was born in Surry County, North Carolina on March 13, 1954 to Charles and Nora Jenkins Akers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Gary Leon Akers.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Ann Swinney Akers of Galax, Virginia; daughter Crystal Akers of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law Eric and Angie Akers of Florida; Jason and Julie Akers of Pine Ridge, North Carolina; Jacob Akers of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law Linda and Bill Norris of Raleigh, North Carolina; brothers and sister-in-law Jimmy Akers; Charles and Patsy Akers all of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; thirteen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; very special sister Debbie Gardner.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church at Fries, Virginia with the Rev. Eddie Bailey and Jeff Akers officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Fries. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the church.
