Lanny Lavon Shumate, age 76, of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday April 6, 2019 at the Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax, Virginia.

Mr. Shumate was born in Grayson County, Virginia on June 3, 1942 to the late Leo and Waco Dalton Shumate.

He is survived by his wife Shirley Wilson Shumate; sons and daughters-in-law Cary and Paige Shumate and Michael and Kristin Shumate, all of Galax, Virginia. Also surviving are grandchildren Bailey and Austin Cheek and Stacy Shumate; great-grandchildren Caroline Cheek and Greyson Akers, all of Galax, Virginia.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday April 9, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Camp Zion Church with Pastor Rodney Christman officiating. Interment will follow at Camp Zion Cemetery with Military Rites by Grayson VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until time of the service at Camp Zion Church.
