RMCS(SW), USN, Retired Kenneth Tolley Porter, 73, of Collinsville, VA died peacefully on December 1, 2021 at LewisGale Hospital. He is survived by his fiancé Louise Thompson, sons Brian Porter and Brett Porter, their wives Brigitte Bradley and Robin Iten Porter, his grandchildren; Caroline Porter, Cailtin Porter, Carleigh Porter, and Benjamin Porter, former wife Jeanne Davis Porter, several nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Oval Jackson Porter and Hazel Swinney Porter and two brothers Bobby Porter and
Dale Porter.

Ken was a career Sailor who retired at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer, and served with distinction as a Radioman onboard numerous ships and commands which include: USS BARNEY (DD-6), USS CLAUDE V. RICKETS (DD-5), USS HAYLER (DDG-997), Submarine Group 8 - Naples, Italy, Naval Station – Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Naval Station – Mayport, Florida, Naval Communications Center – Keflavik, Iceland and Undersea Surveillance Atlantic – Norfolk, Virginia.

After military service, Ken settled in Virginia Beach, VA with his family. He retired from the United States Postal Service where he served as a mail handler. He then moved to Collinsville, VA.

Ken was a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed playing golf with his sons and watching his grandchildren play sports and excel in school.

Visitation to be held for family and friends at Vaughn-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, Virginia on Saturday, December 11, 2021, from 12:00-2:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. Burial with military honors will be held immediately after at Ebenezer Methodist Church in
Spring Valley, VA.
