Kenneth "Kenny" Blackburn

Kenneth "Kenny" Blackburn, age 59, of Rugby, Virginia, passed away on August 02nd, at Galax Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Kenny was born on August 21, 1966, in Sparta, North Carolina, Kenny was the son of the late William Blackburn and Louise Blackburn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Geneva McMeans, and his brother, Andy Blackburn.

Kenny was known for his kind heart and friendly personality. He never met a stranger and treasured the time he spent with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and was happiest when he was staying busy, always finding something to work on or someone to lend a helping hand.

A skilled mechanic by trade, Kenny worked at Dutch Mundy's in Independence, Virginia, early in his career. He also drove a school bus for Grayson County Public Schools for a short time before working at another repair shop in Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. Prior to the illness that forced him to retire, Kenny was employed by Vannoy's Construction in West Jefferson, North Carolina.

Left to cherish his memory are five brothers, Tim Blackburn of Galax, Virginia, Woody Blackburn and wife Teresa of Crumpler, North Carolina, Jerry Blackburn and wife, Wanda, of Rugby, Virginia, Randy Blackburn of Rugby, Virginia, and Harold Blackburn and wife, Helen, of Rugby, Virginia; one sister, Lisa Williams of Burlington, North Carolina; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Kenny will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his willingness to help others, and the friendships he made throughout his life. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family would like to express a huge thank you to the staff at Galax Health and Rehabilitation. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to assist in funeral expenses.
