Kathleen Gross, 74, of Galax, Virginia passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026. She is loved by her two children: Stephanie (Chris) Bauer and Matthew Gross. Kathy leaves behind two sisters and a brother: Laurie Kroft, Norbert (Carol) Doeringer, and Kimberly (Phil) Begany. Kathy is a proud Mawmaw of Dustin (Brandi) Gross, Alisa Gross, Jimmy Gross, Nathen Gross, Savannah Kinder, Nikolas Gross, Morgan Gross, and Zachary Kinder. She is also a proud great-grandma of Christopher Dowdy, Emmitt Gross, Jazmyne Dowdy, Grayson Dowdy, Elliott Gross, and Blakeley Dowdy. Kathy leaves behind many extended family, including nieces and nephews.
Kathy predeceased by her parents Norbert and Alberta Doeringer of North Royalton, Ohio. She will be missed by many that knew and loved her.
Kathy was a proud graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, class of 1973, and a was a proud member of Chi Omega Sorority. Kathy loved and enjoyed being with her family. She was proud of her family too. Kathy volunteered at the Radford Women’s Resource Center in 1993; where she became the Night Counselor as part of the staff in 2012-2020. Kathy started her teaching career at Cleveland Public Schools, teaching reading in the high schools. She moved to Blacksburg, Virginia from 1988-1992, where she started teaching at Blacksburg High School as the Latin and World History teacher. Kathy also was a coach for cheerleading while she was teaching at both Cleveland and Blacksburg. Kathy loved camping, hiking, and being outdoors. She even did some substitute teaching at many different school systems in Virginia, Georgia, and Ohio.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday May 12, 2026 from 11:00AM until 4:00PM at Felts Park in Galax, Virginia.
