Kate Higgins Vaughan, age 95, entered her heavenly home on Friday, December 27th, 2024. She passed away at her home in Galax, VA.

She was born in the Coal Creek Community of Carroll County, Va on October 16th, 1929 to the late E Jack and Lessie Cox Higgins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jimmy) Vaughan; infant daughter; 3 sisters, brother, and 3 half brothers.

She is survived by her sons, Steve Vaughan, and Alan (Jackie) Vaughan; grandsons, Jacob (Tracie ) Vaughan, Jarred Vaughan, and Jordan Vaughan; great granddaughters, Anna (Trenton) Gallimore, Ayla Vaughan, and Allie Vaughan; brother, Tom Higgins; several special nieces and nephews; multiple dear friends.

Kate was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She was co-owner of Vaughan Shoe Store in her early marriage years and later worked at Globman's Department Store in the shoe department until her retirement.

Kate was a long time member of First United Methodist church of Galax and a member of the Eastern Star for many years.

The funeral service will be held Monday December 30, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Coal Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until the time of the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children's Hospital in her memory.
