Obituary

Julian Mack Fender, age 75, of Burlington, NC, formerly of Galax, VA, went to be with the Lord, Friday, April 22, 2011 at Moses Cone Hospital, Greensboro, NC. He was born Oct. 15, 1935 in Galax, VA and was the son of the late Troy and Carlene Fender.

He was a medic in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge and a 3rd degree Master Mason, Old town Lodge #165, Galax, VA. He was retired from Burlington Industries having worked at the plant in Galax, VA and Burlington, NC. He later worked for Camera Corner and Dick Shirley Chevrolet. He attended Hillcrest Baptist Church in Galax, VA. Most recently he attended and was a faithful member of New Hope Baptist Church in Burlington.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty, his daughter, Ann Carol Roberts (Danny) of Galax, VA; his son, David Mack Fender (Ronda); and his one very special grandson, David Mack Fender, 11, both of Elon.

Other survivors are his precious brother, Jerry (Judy); sisters, Janie Smithers, Joan Rosenbaum, Janet Hill (Dallas) and Joyce Hill (Robert); a special niece, Brenda Stewart & several beloved nieces & nephews.

Julian touched the lives of many family and friends and was loved by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends at the Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Sunday evening from 3:00 until 5:00 PM. At other times they will be at the residence.

The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday at New Hope Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Hobbs.

The family will receive friends at Vaughan Guynn Funeral Home, Galax, VA from 12:30 until 1:30 on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 prior to the graveside service at 2:00 PM at Monta Vista Memory Gardens in Galax. The Rev. Sam Holder will be the officiating minister and Masonic Rites by the Moose Lodge #165 and also by the Grayson VFW Post #7726 will be performed at the gravesite.

The family would like to thank their church families, friends and neighbors for all their support and prayers during his illness. Also, a special thank you for the love and compassion shown by the ICU at Moses Cone.
