Joyce Smith Patton of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on July 23, 2024.

Joyce was born in Galax, Virginia (Grayson County) on November 2, 1936. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burley and Ida Burcham Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Raymond Patton; her brothers Paul (sister-in-law Mildred), Richard (sister-in-law Lois), Homer (sister-in-law Bernice), Willard, Kyle, and Billy (sister-in-law Mary). She was also preceded in death by her very special friend Harland Jackson.

Joyce is survived by her son Darrell Patton and wife Nancy of Hudson, Florida; her daughter Patricia Patton Rader and husband Jay of Charlotte, North Carolina; and her grandchildren, Ryan Crist and wife Melissa of North Carolina, and Eleese Zoeller of Fort Mill, South Carolina. She is survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Haley and Allan (A.J.) Crist and Payton Zoeller; 1 brother, BC Smith of Galax; 2 sisters-in-law, Sue Smith and Phyllis Smith of Galax; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Joyce was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Lakeland, Florida, and Charlotte, North Carolina. She worked 30 years in the motel/restaurant business. After retiring, she worked as a caregiver for 14 years.

Joyce was a loving, caring, compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed beyond words.

The funeral service will be at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax, Virginia, on Wednesday July 31 at 11am. Burial will follow at the Floyd Williams Family Cemetery in Galax, Virginia. The family will receive friends 10am until time of the service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
