Joyce Waddell Hanks passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018. She was born on January 28, 1929 to Frank and Emma Waddell.. She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence Dempsey "Jack" Hanks. Surviving are her daughter, Linda Anthony (Dennis) of Lexington, North Carolina; her son, Michael Hanks (Vickie) of Christiansburg, Virginia; her daughter Kaye Reeves of Galax, Virginia; one brother Larry Waddell of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina; one brother-in-law, Carl Hanks (Faye) of Pulaski, Virginia; her granddaughter, Erika Wood (Landon) of Independence, VA ; her grandson, Morgan (Dawn) Hanks of Carrollton, VA; her grandson, Eli Reeves of Independence, VA; two great-granddaughters, Nalah Reeves and Nicole Hanks, one great-grandson, Ashton Wood, several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church for almost 70 years and was very active as long as her health permitted. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 60 years. Joyce will be remembered as a wonderful lady who loved the Lord first, her family second, and who thought more of others than herself. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 at Oakland United Methodist Church with Rev. Tim Smith and Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will received friends from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
