Joyce Gray Farmer Davis age 81 of Galax, Virginia passed away Friday, September 6, 2024 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.

Joyce was born in Galax, Virginia on March 12, 1943 to Gray and Virginia Frost Farmer. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Gary Farmer and sister-in-law Emma Lee Hines.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years James "Jimmy" Davis; daughters and son-in-law Sandra Davis and Danny Cook; Jennifer Holdaway; son and daughter-in-law Bennie and Deborah Davis; granddaughter Lauren Holdaway; sister Donna Nichols; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Ellen Farmer; sister-in-law Lucille Drumheller; brother-in-law and wife Tommy and Shirley Davis; several nieces, nephews,  other family members and friends.

Mom loved and cared for a lot of children She volunteered at Oakland United Methodist Church for years in different capacities One of her favorites was doing crafts at Bible School with her friend Brenda Hill. She also worked for years as Ms. Joyce at First Baptist preschool in Galax. Also, she worked at Apple Pie Kids Daycare in Galax. She babysat in her home as well for three lucky people Andrew Petty; Jamie Peddy Shaffer and Emma Reitzel. Mom worked the hardest keeping a clean and welcoming home for canning and pickling.

Mom loved to cook and if you were blessed enough to enjoy her pound cake and soft oatmeal raisin cookies you know she was excellent at it. She hated to think of anyone going hungry and that is why the family would like to ask in lieu of flowers to please make donations to the Oakland Backpack Program at Oakland United Methodist Church, C/O Faye Littrell, 4987 Pipers Gap Road, Galax, Virginia 24333. Please make your check payable to the church and on the line for list "In Memory of Joyce Davis for Backpack Buddies".

The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM in the Oakland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cindy Paxton and the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time for the funeral service at the Oakland United Methodist Church.

The family would like to thank Dr. Bonsu and all the staff at Waddell Nursing & Rehab Center for the love and care they gave  Mrs. Davis.
