Joshua Douglas Peters, 30, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 11, 2026.
Joshua was born in Fort Lewis, Washington and eventually made his home in Galax, Virginia, where he settled in the third grade. He then graduated from Galax High School in 2014 after completing U.S. Army Basic Combat Training prior to his senior year.
Joshua proudly served in the United States Army as a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Specialist and later as an Apache Helicopter Repairman. During his military service, he married Kelsie (King) Peters, also of Galax, in 2018 along the New River surrounded by family and friends.
Most recently, Joshua worked at Hy-Vee, where he began as a meat butcher and worked his way up to meat department manager. He was respected for his hard work, reliability, and the care he showed toward both his coworkers and customers.
Joshua lived his life with a heart of gold and an easy smile. He was always willing to offer laughter, kindness, and support to those around him. He was a devoted hockey fan and especially loved cheering on the Washington Capitals. He was also a lifelong Star Wars fan and enjoyed sharing that enthusiasm with those around him. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, unwavering love for his family, and the way he made others feel seen and cared for.
Joshua was deeply loved by his family and friends and is survived by his wife, Kelsie Peters, and their two sons, Maddox and Elias; his parents, Mark and Rebecca Peters of Max Meadows, Virginia; and his sister, Kristina (Aaron) Hash of Galax, Virginia.
Joshua was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Nancy Steurer and his paternal grandparents, Bernie and Patricia Peters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family of Joshua Peters to help support Kelsie, Maddox, and Elias during this difficult time.
Joshua's funeral service will be held Saturday June 20, 2026 at 2:00PM in Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home's Chapel with Rev. Verl Brown officiating. Burial will follow in a family cemetery in Max Meadows, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM until time of the service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
