Joseph Darrell Whittington age 67 of Woodlawn, Va. passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2006 in Beverly Blue Ridge Healthcare. He was born on March 20, 1939 in Grayson County, Va. to the late Burton and Bertie Smith Whittington. He is survived by his caregiver and the mother of his children, Linda Martin and her husband Ray; one daughter, Lana A. Edmonds of Woodlawn, Va.; two sons, Darrin W. Whittington and Aaron L. Whittington both of Woodlawn, Va.; his grandchidlren, Joseph R. Jones, Nicole A. Jones and Ryan S. Dean; brothers and sisters-in-law, Burton & Anita Whittington of Kernersville, N.C. ; Harrell "Jody" & Connie Whittington of Galax, Va.; sisters and brother-in-law, Geraldine "Jerry" & David Pack and Maxine Jones all of Woodlawn, Va.; seven nephews; nine nieces and several cousins and friends also survive. The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2006 at 1:00 PM in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Kevin Worrell and Norman Goad officiating. Burial will follow in the Galax City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
