Joseph Fred Burnett, age 85, of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday June 23, 2021 in the Commonwealth Senior Living Facility in Hillsville.

Joseph was born on November 12, 1935 in Carroll County, Virginia to Fred and Glema Warf Burnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Joy Hill and brother Lester Edward Taylor.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Emma Viars Burnett; daughter and special friend Mary Jo Burnett and John Borzoni of Rural Hall, North Carolina; son David Burnett of Galax; grandchild Leigh Anne and Jason Smith of Cana; and great-grand children Ethan Smith and Eli Smith of Cana. Also surviving is her sister Alma Sue Horton of Woodlawn; brother Jack Burnett of Beulaville, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday June 26, 2021 at 11:00AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. David Payne and Rev. Charles Bunn officiating. Burial will follow at Monta Vista Cemetery with Military Rites by Grayson VFW Post #7726. The family will receive friends at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home from 10AM until time of the service.
