John Preston Rutherford better known as J.P. Rutherford age 62 of Fries, Virginia passed away Thursday, January 7,2010 in Twin County Regional Hospital.

J.P. was born on November 11, 1947 in Grayson County, Virginia to Garnett & Odell McMillan Rutherford. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Dixie Gail Rutherford; father-in-law & mother-in-law Charlie & Clara "Bell' Felts; niece Cyndi Summey; nephew Dickie Lee Summey; great-niece Amber Marie Clyburn; great-great-nephew David Clay Tickle; special sisters-in-law Ella Summey & Ann Richardson.

He is survived by his wife Virginia Kay Felts Rutherford; daughter & son-in-law Betty Lynn & Johnny P. Taylor; son William Cody Rutherford all of Fries, Va.; grandchildren Haley Taylor; Daniel Rutherford; Alissa Bobbitt; Charity Rutherford; David Alan Rutherford; great-grandchildren; Hannah & Keetan Rutherford; special friend & brother-in-law Jack Summey of Fries, Va.; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Hobert & Betty Akers of Fries, Va.; Don & Leana Cole of Pulaski, Va.; James & Charlotte Felts; Jane Hiatt; David Felts all of Galax, Va.; Curt & Christine Summey of Elkin, N.C.; several nieces & nephews; one great-niece & one great-great nephew.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Blood Bought Baptist Church with Pastor Joe Tolley; Pastor J.R. Bowers and Pastor Greg Goodson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior the funeral service and the family will receive friends Saturday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
