John David Porter age 83 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, March 10, 2024 at his home.

Mr. Porter was born on May 20, 1940, in Austinville, Virginia to Harold Byron and Mae Etta Sharp Porter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Bernice Geberth Porter and a daughter Terry Ann Locklear.

He proudly served his country in the US Air Force and retired in 1978.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Christina and Tommy Webb; sons Steve Porter; Johnny Porter and Brian Porter all of Galax, Virginia; sisters and brother-in-law Etta Mae and Phillip Manning of Roanoke, Virginia; Vera Horton of Woodlawn, Virginia; brother and sister-in-law Alvin and Jean Porter of Galax, Virginia; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Cas Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Sharp Cemetery with Military Rites by be Grayson VFW Post 7726. There will be no visitation.
