John Paden McKenzie age 92 of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 in the Senior Home Shares at Quail Ridge Court.

Mr. McKenzie was born in Grayson County, Virginia on August 24, 1931 to George G. and H. Florence Leonard McKenzie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife Hazel McKenzie; brothers Roscoe, Elmer and Charles and his sisters Everlyn Isom, Mamie McKenzie and Luella McKenzie.

He proudly served his country in the U S Navy.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law John W. and Joyce McKenzie; Mark McKenzie; two daughters Joanna McKenzie and Lori McKenzie all of Galax, Virginia; grandchildren and spouses Stephen and Kayla McKenzie; Daniel and Lauren McKenzie; Matthew and Jenny McKenzie; Cory and Jennifer McKenzie; Andrea and Adam Smith; Brianna Lineberry; Hannah and Devin Boyer; Megan and Lacy Johnson; Mariah and Colin Kenny; ; eighteen great-grandchildren (and one on the way); several nieces and nephews and his canine companion Emmy..

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the McKenzie Cemetery with Pastor Shawn Rector officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from five until seven at Christ Chapel.
