John Mumphord Frost, 82, of Galax passed away on July 26, 2017. He was a lifelong resident of Galax, VA, and Carroll County; and a member of Church of Christ, Gambetta.
Mr. Frost is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Pinky" Burnette Frost and sisters Katheryn Lawson, Betty Jane and spouse Sid Roberts, and brother Wayne and spouse Nancy Frost, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by sisters Agnes Frost Newman, Lydia Frost Lineberry, and brothers Paul Frost, Rufus Frost, Harry Frost, Herbert Frost, Howard Frost and Bobby Frost.
Mr. Frost was born October 25, 1934 in Carroll County, Virginia to John S. and Ida M. Carrico Frost. He proudly served his country by joining The United States Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1957 as Third-Class Petty Officer.
In 1979 Mr. Frost and his brother, Bobby, founded the Consolidated Glass and Mirror Company, Galax. Later, their brothers and other relatives joined in their endeavor; starting with six (6) employees and building to nine hundred (900) employees when sold. After five years their company was named a "Fortune 500" Company, He served as the company's "Executive Vice-President" and retired in 1992 devoting his time to family, church, gardening and friends.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Carroll Lineberry and Steve McCollum officiating. Burial will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
