John Paul Diamond, 73, passed away peacefully at home in Riverview, Florida, on November 18, 2025, surrounded by his family. Born in Galax, Virginia, on May 17, 1952, he was the son of the late Paul and Dorothy Diamond.

John dedicated his life to service and family. He proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the submarine tender U.S.S. L.Y. Spear and continued his commitment to his country as a member of the Army Reserves. Following his military service, he protected and supported his community as a Galax City Police Officer, worked for the Grayson County School District, and served as a correctional officer at the New River Valley Regional Jail. His work ethic, discipline, and devotion to service were evident in every role he held.

John is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Judy Sizemore Diamond of the home.

He is also survived by his children:

Christopher Diamond (Debra) of Riverview, Florida
Lori Diamond and Christine Russell of Riverview, Florida
Julie Youngblood Waldo (R.L. Waldo) of Lynchburg, Virginia

His grandchildren:

Rachel Turner (Jonathan)
Noah Waldo (Tatum)
Grace Collins (Pell)

He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

John had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories—sharing memories, lessons, and moments that brought smiles to those around him. He faced his 21-month battle with cancer with strength, and he carried a deep faith in Jesus Christ, which remained important to him throughout his life. During that journey, Judy cared for him selflessly and without hesitation, remaining at his side with unwavering love and devotion.

His family will honor his life with a celebration of love and remembrance at a later date.

John's legacy lives on in the values he instilled—discipline, hard work, love, service, and strength. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
