Obituary

Rev. John "Bill" Billy Davis, 84 passed away Wednesday, February 14,2018 at his home where his loving wife Shirley, cared for him for many years. Bill was born in Grayson County, VA on November 4, 1933 to John Emmett and Virginia Shumate Davis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Rev. Blace Davis, Jim Davis, George Davis and Jack Davis, and two sisters, Lennie Moser and Gladys Bedsaul.

He served with the US Navy as a machinist's mate, second class during the Korean War.

He worked as a construction contractor with JE Davis and Sons and BB Construction. He pastored at Fries Tabernacle in Fries, Springfield in Elk Creek and Camp Zion Church, in Galax.

Bill served the community, his church and his family with love and devotion. He brought joy and happiness to everyone he met. Bill Davis' life can be summed in one word, "Love". His life was lived in service to others, but most of all service to the Lord Jesus Christ.

He dedicated his life to sharing the gospel to everyone he met. Many lives have been changed because of the love of God shown through John Billy Davis.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Shirley Ayers Davis; two daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Cody Jay Cline, Jr. of Baywood; Karen and Jonathan Luper of Fries, VA; son and daughter-in-law John E. and Mary Davis of Galax, VA; grandchildren and spouses Heather and Nick Holt, Cody Jay and Lindsey Cline, Nathan and Kelly Cline, Jennifer and Josh Huff, Molly Kay Luper, Tabitha and Matt Carbaugh; great-grandchildren Colson and Hylee Holt, Marella and Lane Huff, Weston and Karsyn Cline, Emolene and Henry Cline and Johnny Carbaugh; sisters-in-law and spouses Gaynell Davis of Christiansburg, VA, Ruth Ayers of Fries, VA, Janice and Howard Taylor of Fries, VA, Betty and George Whitaker of Galax, VA, brother-in-law and spouse Harry and Deloris Ayers of Austinville, VA, several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Camp Zion Church with the Rev. Rodney Christman, the Rev. Ernie Smith and John Nathan Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Zion Cemetery with Military Rites by the Grayson VFW Post 7726.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from six until eight at the Camp Zion Church.
