Joel Byrum Melton age 49 of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and formerly of Galax, Va. passed away at his home on Monday, August 20, 2007. Joel was born in Galax, Va. on March 19, 1958 to Hampton M.and Jewell Amburn Melton. In addition to his mother of Galax he is survived by a daughter & son-in-law Jennifer & Norris Short of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sisters & brother-in-law Mina & Billy Wilson of Galax, Va.; Myra L. Smith of Alexandria, Va. and two granddaughters. A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 23, 2007 at 11:00 am in Felts Memorial Cemetery with Rev. John Ousley officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from seven until nine at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
