Jewell Arlene Melton age 98 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday January 31, 2021 in the Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville, Virginia.

Mrs. Melton was born in Galax, Virginia on May 13, 1922 to Columbus Franklin and Lavada Stoneman Amburn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hampton Mina Melton; daughter Myra Smith and a son Joel Melton.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Mina and Billy Wilson of Galax, Virginia; granddaughter and husband Jennifer and Norris Short of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; great-granddaughters Samantha Short and Stephanie Short; sister-in-law Jo Melton of Galax, Virginia; special nephew Zeke Morton; and several other nephews.

A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Felts Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Gloria Lancaster Rhudy officiating. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Mask and social distancing will be required at the graveside service.
