Janie Alice Higgins age 86 of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday August 27, 2022 in the Galax Health and Rehab Center.

Mrs. Higgins was born in Carroll County, Virginia on September 27, 1935 to Ervin Floyd and Sena Hazel Melton Bowman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wiley Gwyn Higgins; son Robert Gwyn Higgins and a granddaughter Katrina Higgins.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Randy Long of Fayetteville, North Carolina; sons and daughter-in-law Terry and Betsy Higgins; Dana Higgins; sisters and brother-in-law Hazel Easter; Norma and Dean Payne; sister-in-law Patsy Bowman all of Galax, Virginia; three grandchildren Raymond Higgins; Alisha Higgins and Randall Higgins; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 PM in the Freedom Baptist Church with Pastor John Leek and Harold Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Crooked Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Freedom Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Freedom Baptist Church or to the church of the donor's choice.
