Jane Haddon Pitt Robinson, age 82, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at home, leaving behind family and friends who loved her dearly. A native of Richmond, Virginia, she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Grace Pitt, a brother, Reverend R. Douglas Pitt, and her devoted husband of 62 years, Dr. E. Hiter Robinson, Jr.

She was a graduate of Westhampton College of The University of Richmond, where she met Hiter. They married in 1950 and moved to the Galax area in 1952 for Hiter to establish his dental practice. Jane was the mother of five children, and her life revolved around her husband, children and home. She was active in her community and her church and loved to share her creative talents of cooking, gardening, flower arranging and decorating. In her later years, she took great joy and pride in preparing beautiful flower arrangements for Sunday church services and for her grandchildren's weddings.

She is survived by five children and their spouses: Grace Cullen Robinson King and her husband, William of Richmond, Virginia; Eldred Hiter Robinson, III ("Robbie") and his wife Patricia of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mary Jane Robinson Ballard and her husband, Gary of Galax; Douglas Pitt Robinson and his wife Deborah of Galax; and John Christopher Robinson of Galax. She is also survived by nine grandchildren who will greatly miss their grandmother "Mema" – Mandy, Jonathan, Nina, Laura Jane, Mattie, Emma, Cullen, Alex and Sarah -- and six great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Jane's life will be held at The First Baptist Church in Galax, on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 3 pm. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service in the prayer garden, which Jane refurbished ten years ago.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish to do so, are invited to honor her memory with donations to First Baptist Church of Galax, 1024 E. Stuart Drive, Galax, Virginia 24333 designated for the prayer garden and flower fund.
