James Paul Smith age 79 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2008 in Twin County Regional Hospital.Mr. Smith was born on July 18, 1929 in Virginia to Burley & Ida Burcham Smith. He is survived by his wife Mildred Ring Smith of Galax, Va.; daughter & son-in-law Nancy & Mike Cain of Shallotte, North Carolina; son & daughter-in-law Jimmy & Karen Smith of Fries, Va.; sister Joyce Patton of Pineville, North Carolina; brothers & sisters-in-law Homer & Bernice Smith; Kyle & Phyllis Smith; B.C. & Ann Smith; Richard & Lois Smith all of Galax, Va.; Bill Smith of Moneta, Virginia; grandchildren Katy & Emily Smith; Timmy Vaughan of Fries, Va.; Josh Vaughan & Jon Vaughan of Galax, Va.; Bays Smith of Galax, Va.; Mark Cain; great-grandchild A.J. Vaughan; step-great-grandson Michael Dunford; sisters-in-law Bonnie Cornett of Galax, Va.; Claudette Underwood of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Norma Crouse of Germanton, N.C.; several nieces & nepehws. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 5, 2008 at 11:00 am in Meadow Creek Union Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ring & Rev. Ralph Alley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
