James Reed Shupe, age 78, of Galax, VA passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at the Waddell Nursing Home in Galax. Mr. Shupe was born August 23, 1934 in Ennice, North Carolina to Muncie Shupe and Alma Grace Smith Shupe. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step son, Kenneth Burcham.

He is survived by his wife Irene Shupe of the home, three step daughters & sons-in-law: Wanda & Donald Lowe; Carol & Glen Smith; and Debbie Hodges all of Galax; his mother Alma Grace Smith Carter of Galax; sister and brother-in-law: Joyce & Gil Hatch of Florida; half-sisters and husband: Mary Leda Bower of Tazewell, VA and Hattie Mae & Jim Bedsaul of Galax, VA; half brother and wife: Larry Joseph & Tami Carter of Galax, VA. Eight Step Grandchildren and five Step Great Grandchildren also survive.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Myron Dalton, Rev. David Long and Pastor Garry Adams officiating. The burial will be Sunday, November 4, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 5:00 PM until time for the funeral service at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
