James Archie Nowlin age 83 of Galax, Virginia passed away Tuesday October 21, 2025 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Nowlin was born in Grayson County, Virginia on November 8, 1941 to Jessie Lewis and Virginia Mildred Carter Nowlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Dreama Davis; sons Joel Brown and Alfred Brown; sister Margaret Josephine Harris.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Vincent and Barbara Brown of Galax, Virginia; daughter and son-in-law Twila and Roger Roberts of Rural Hall, North Carolina; sister Nancy Hampton of White Lake, Michigan and; ten grandchildren; host of great-grandchildren; host of great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Pastor Rodney Christman and the Rev. Michael King officiating. Burial will follow in the Glades Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 PM until time for the funeral service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
