James (J. D. ) Jackson Smith, 91, of Galax, VA passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015 in Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center, Galax. Mr. Smith was born December 23, 1923 in Virginia to Jack and Dora Walker Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Smith and son Harold Eugene Smith.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Virgil Eugene and Nancy Smith of Mount Airy, North Carolina; Deborah Sharlene and Perry Martin of Galax, Virginia; Jackie and Kim Smith of Galax, Virginia; one grandson Brandon Timothy Smith; one great granddaughter Savanna Skyy Smith and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are special caregivers David Cundiff and Virgie Kirk and special friends Loree Blevins-Smith and family.

The funeral service will be Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:30 AM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Ted Bartlett and Pastor Sam Holder officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening December 10, 2015 in the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
