James Herman Huffman

James Herman Huffman age 91 of Galax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at his home.

Mr. Huffman was born in Galax, Virginia on July 30, 1934 to Joseph Herman and Wilma Bolen Huffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Trenton Huffman.

Mr. Huffman proudly served his country in the US Navy and the Naval Reserves 1952-1960 and 1964-1968. He enjoyed gardening, horseshoes, bowling and card games with his family.

He is survived by his wife Vera Howell Huffman of Galax, Virginia; daughters Lisa Huffman (Danny Jones) of Pulaski, Virginia; Sonya Huffman of Galax, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Karen Huffman of Galax, Virginia; four grandchildren and spouses Justin and Kelsey Huffman; Caitlin and Harmony Huffman; Travis and Dawn Schaeffer; Kyle and Kayla Schaeffer; and seven great-grandchildren Joe; Millie; Trenton; Evelyn; Harley; Beau and Ada.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:30 until 7:00 PM at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to either the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or the Shriners Hospitals For Children, 2900 North Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
