James Wade Higgins age 80 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, November 28, 2023 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mr. Higgins was born in Grayson County, Virginia on January 20, 1943 to Heath Dalton and Alma Higgins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son James Wade Higgins, Jr. sister Judith Hendrix and a brother David Higgins.

He is survived by his wife Joan Martin Higgins of Galax, Virginia; step-daughter Amanda Pickett of Wytheville, Virginia; daughter-in-law Jennifer Pace Higgins of Martinsville, Virginia; one grandson Sullivan Grey Higgins; honorary grandsons Branch Dixon; John Olinger and Samuel Olinger; nieces Heather Shaffner and Traci Pierce; nephew Craig Hendrix; special friends Bob Andrews; Zach and Denise Olinger; several other nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM in the First Christian Church with the Rev. Glen Sage officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00 PM until time for the service at the First Christian Church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Christian Church.
