James Solomon Hamm age 86 of Fries, Virginia passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

Mr. Hamm was born in Grayson County, Virginia on December 7, 1925 to Levi and Mary Martin Hamm. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Gladys Davis Hamm and sister Faye Johnson.

He is survived by his wife Maggie Willard Hamm of Fries, Virginia; sons Tim Hamm of Woodbridge, Virginia and Robert Hamm of Oak Park, California; step-daughter and husband Della and Chip Watson of Independence, Virginia; sisters and brothers-in-law Sue and Bobby Joe Shinault of Mt.Airy, North Carolina; Mary Lou and Newton Anders of Greensboro, North Carolina; brother and sister-in-law Scott and Delane Hamm of Mt. Airy, North Carolina; sisters-in-law Elsie Davis of Galax, Virginia; Mary Ruth Jefferson of Greensboro, North Carolina; brothers-in-law and spouses Olin and Alveta Davis of Roanoke, Virginia; Raymond and Joyce Davis of Fries, Virginia; Gerald Johnson of Greenville, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the Fries Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Rick Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from six until eight at the Fries Church of God of Prophecy.
