First Sgt. James E, Isom, USA Retired, better known as Gene, age 78, of Galax, VA died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009 at the Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Isom.

Mr. Isom was born Sept. 7, 1931 in Carroll Couty, VA to Huston and Lillie Weatherman Isom.

He is survived by his loving companion and caregiver, Wanda Caudill and sisters-in-law and spouse, Mary & Gene Bond, Mt. Airy, NC and Audene Isom, Galax. Three nieces and two nephews also survive.

Graveside service and burial will be held Monday, Dec. 28, 2009, 11:00 AM, at the Monta Vista Cemetery with Military rites being performed by VFW Post #1115 and Masonic rites by Lodge #68. The officiating ministers will be the Rev. Ted Bartlett and the Rev. R.J. Reynolds. Vaughan-Guyn Funeral Home, Galax, is in charge of arrangements. The family requests memorial contributions may be made to Joy Ranch Home for Children or charity of choice.
