James Delphus Thomason better known as J.D. Thomason age 85 of Galax, Virginia passed away Monday, November 27, 2023 at the home of his stepson in Bluefield, Virginia.

J.D. was born on May 2, 1938 in Galax, Virginia to Lee and Inez Baker Thomason.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Harry Thomason; Clarence Thomason and Bobby Thomason; four sisters Mary Hawks; Helen Thomason; Betty Reid and Dorothy Tillotson.

J.D. and his brother Bobby were well known football and baseball players while attending Galax High School together. He also attended East Tennessee State University.  He proudly served his country in the US Navy. Before his retirement he was a supervisor for American Mirror.

He is survived by his wife Alice Thomason; step-son and wife Patrick and Terri Buckner; step-daughter Angela Buckner; step-grandson Colton Buckner and mate Mandy Martin; several nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service held at a later date.
