James Charles Dickens (better known as J.C.) , age 94 of Galax, Virginia passed on to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 10, 2024 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center.

J.C. was born in Carroll County, Virginia on April 17, 1930 to John William and Abbie Semones Dickens.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sons, Glenn Charles and Keith Scott Dickens:  sisters Freida Rector, Flora Aldred and Georgie Eastridge.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Peggy Sexton Dickens; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Carl Martin of Galax; granddaughter, Emily Martin and great-grandson Austin Stitsinger of Hamilton, Ohio; sister-in-law Joy Sexton, Asheville, North Carolina; several loving nieces and nephews; Sue Testerman, special caregiver; Mark and Donna Galyean, children of the heart; and his Hillcrest church family.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 15 at 11:00 in Hillcrest Baptist Church with Pastor James Cowley officiating.  Graveside services will follow in the Semones Cemetery, Fancy Gap, VA.    Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to the service.
