Obituary

James (Jimmie) Clark Williams, Sr. age 85 of Galax, Virginia passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his home.

Mr. Williams was born in Comers Rock, Virginia on April 19, 1932 to Garnett Troy and Carolyn Osborne Williams. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children Jean Lindamood Williams.

He attended Virginia Tech and served with the US Army during the Korean conflict, earning several citations including a Purple Heart.

He was manager of Pulaski Livestock Market from 1955-1963. He was manager and later co-owner of the Galax Livestock Market from 1963-1987. He was elected to the Virginia Beef Cattle Association Board of Directors. He served as President of the Virginia Livestock Market Association and the Galax Feeder Cattle Sales Association. He helped introduce special feeder cattle sales which became a permanent, dependable marketing program. He was named Virginia Beef Cattle Association's Cattleman of the Year in 1979.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Williams, daughter Rebecca Cardwell, son and daughter-in-law Clark and Josee Williams all of Galax, Virginia; four grandchildren Carolyn Cardwell Sparks of Nashville, Tennessee; Preston Cardwell, Taylor Williams and Kalen Williams all of Galax, Virginia; caregivers Pauline Swinney and Gladys Redd.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Comers Rock Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Gregory officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by the Grayson VFW Post 7726. There will be no visitation at the funeral home; however the family will receive friends following the service from 4:00 PM until 6:30 PM at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Clark Williams, 1585 White Pine Road, Galax, Virginia. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully request donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, 17th Floor, Chicago, Illinois 60601.
