James Dean Carr, Jr. age 80 of Fancy Gap, Virginia passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2026 in the Twin County Regional Hospital.

J.D. was born in Grayson County, Virginia on February 28, 1946 to James Dean Carr, Sr. and Lucille Leonard Carr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Ann Leonard Carr and son James Dean Carr III.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Paula and Donnie Melton of Woodlawn, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Chipper Thornton of Greensboro, North Carolina; six grandchildren Shannon Carr (Selena); Paige Wenn (Harold); Shelby Hall (Brodie); Tiffany Melton (Beth Barrett); Jesse Davis (Kendra); Jayson Carr (Audrey); six great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Jayson Carr officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:00 PM until time for the service at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
