Jackie Gilmer Long, 80, of Independence passed away Thursday, November 1, 2018 at his home. Mr. Long was born in Grayson County on March 8, 1938 to Roby William Long and Polly Bagwell Long.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by  his wife Ruby Eller Ward Long, son Bobby Ray Long and daughter Luella Kay James.

Mr. Long is survived by two daughters and son-in-law: Carolyn Long of the home; Patricia Leonard Cruise and Craig of Galax; one sister and brother-in-law: Anne Cole and Joe of Independence; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and special friends "Buck" Brewer, Sam Warren and Jimmy Woods.

A graveside service and burial will be held Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Grubbs Chapel Cemetery at 11:00 AM with Dale Ward officiating. There will be no visitation.
