Jack Randolph Roberts (CWO3 Army Retired), 79, of King, NC went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, September 23rd following a brief illness. Mr. Roberts was born November 6, 1929 in Galax, VA to the late Louie and Stella Roberts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Ann Roberts, and one brother, Rex Roberts.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty M Roberts of the home; one son, Alan Roberts (Sande) of Seattle, WA; two daughters, Cathy Metcalf (Michael) of Colorado Springs, CO and Rita Frye (James) of King, NC; one brother, William Roberts (Kay) of Galax; one sister, Lois Cox of Galax; four grandchildren, Alena and Meredith Whitworth, Dylan Roberts, and John Frye, and one nephew, George Cox, Jr.
Mr. Roberts was a good Christian man who loved the Lord, his wife, and his children. He served in the US Army for 20 years and was a combat veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Western Electric (AT&T/Lucent) as a Technical Writer for another 20 years before retiring in 1988.
A memorial will be held Saturday, September 26th, 10:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, King, NC with Pastor Kevin Broyhill officiating. The family will receive friends following the service before proceeding to Galax, VA. Visitation will be at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home in Galax from 1:30 – 2:30 with graveside services at Felts Cemetery at 3:00. Grover King VFW Post 1115 of Hillsville, Rev. Myron Dalton, and Col. Michael Metcalf will conduct the graveside services.
