Obituary

Mr. Nail, 93, died on Thursday, April 12, 2007. He was born April 25, 1913 in Carroll County, Virginia, the son of the late Jim and Grace Nail.

During WW II, he contributed to the war effort by working in defense manufacturing companies in Maryland and Michigan. After returning to Galax, he was employed with Burlington Industries. In July 1959, Irvin joined the staff of Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home where he worked 30 years plus. During these years, he served with quiet dignity and brought support and comfort to many families throughout the area.

Irvin is survived by his wife, Edith "Bob", with whom he celebrated 73 years of marriage on December 16, 2006. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather, who delighted in the companionship of his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Joan Hackenberg and her husband, John of Charlotte, NC: one granddaughter Jenny Keenan and her husband, Joe of Charleston, SC; one great grandson Jay, one sister, Eva Lineberry of Galax; and one brother Everett of Akron, Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Wayne, and four brothers: Elmer, Howard, J.C., and Gilmer.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7 until 9 PM at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.

Memorial service to celebrate his life will be held Sunday; April 15, 2007, 2 P M at Oakland United Methodist Church officiated by the Reverend John Ousley.The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakland United Methodist Churc Building Fund, 4987 Pipers Gap Road, Galax, VA 24333.
