Irvin Lynwood Matherly, 79, of Fries, Virginia passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at his home. Mr. Matherly was born May 15, 1936 in Floyd County, Virginia to the late Ervin Matherly and Rushia Goad Matherly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Conrad Matherly and Galin Matherly. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Virginia Tech where he was a financial analyst.
He is survived by his wife Martha Farmer Matherly of the home; daughter and son-in-law Crystol and Dean Armstrong of Fredericksburg, Virginia; son and daughter-in-law: Barry I. and Monica Matherly of Richmond, Virginia; grandchildren Sarah Armstrong, Brooke Matherly, Blair Matherly; step grandson Chris Armstrong; half brother and wife Rance and Nevlin Goad of Sun City Center, Florida; sister-in-law Mary Matherly of Fairlawn, Virginia; Brothers-in-law and wives: Richard and Judy Farmer of Fries, Virginia; Gary and Patty Farmer of Dalzell, South Carolina; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the Fries Baptist Church with Rev. John Williams officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 5550 Bagging Plant Rd, Dublin, VA on Monday, July 29, 2015 at 11:00 AM with military rites by the Grayson VFW Post 7726.
