Ira Patterson Shaffner age 88 of Fries Virginia passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 in the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

Mr. Shaffner was born in Grayson County, Virginia on September 27, 1931 to Grady and Irene Byrd Shaffner. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Violet Akers and a brother Raymond Shaffner.

Mr. Shaffner proudly served his country in the US Navy and was a Korean War Veteran.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jane Williams Shaffner of Fries, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Melissa and Todd Dickson of Statesville, North Carolina; Drema and Chris Morton of Independence, Virginia; sons and daughter-in-law Steven and Janie Shaffner of Fries, Virginia; Tony Shaffner of Elk Creek, Virginia; grandchildren and spouses Brad and Casey Shaffner; Geoffrey and Holly Shaffner; Chad and Ashley Shaffner; Tracie and Jacob Vaughan; Zach and Lauren Dickson; Colt Dickson; Irelyn Morton; great-grandchildren Kacie Shaffner; Anna Vaughan; Andrew Shaffner; Alya Vaughan; Allie Vaughan; Easton Shaffner; Karsyn Shaffner; Charleigh Shaffner; Jack Dickson; Grayson Shaffner and Hayden Dickson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special neighbors Gerald and Judy Anders, the Robbie Isom Family and the dedicated Home Health workers.

To fulfill the wishes of Mr. Shaffner his body will be cremated and a memorial graveside service will be held at a later date.
