Howard Douglas Sayers, age 83, passed away Saturday, December 10, 2022 at his home in Fries.  Howard was born August 22, 1939 in Ivanhoe, Wythe County, Virginia to the late Earnest Burton Sayers and Laura Jane Childress Sayers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three (3) brothers, two (2) sisters and two (2) granddaughters.

He is survived by the love of his life, best friend and wife of 45 years Shirley Ann Underwood Sayers of the home. Howard and Shirley were married on May 29 1977.  Also surviving are four (4)   daughters and sons-in-law:  Laura Jane Padgett, Kimberly Sayers, Freida Bond and Larry; Ann McDonough and Mark; one (1) son Arless Clifton Dowling and Aicha; sisters and brother-in-law Wanda Hall and Rodney of Galax; Virginia Dorothy Settles of Roanoke, Virginia , and Brenda McRoberts of Sevierville, Tennessee  and brother Donald Sayers of Washington, NC; along with six (6) grandsons, five (5) great grandsons, four (4) granddaughters and six (6) great granddaughters.

Howard was a member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Fries, Virginia.  He loved the Lord and demonstrated this love and passion for the Lord by passing out Bibles to any one who needed one and children's Bible story books.  He also enjoyed antiques, auctions, flea markets and hunting with his grandsons.

At Howard's request there will be no services.
