Howard Victor Jennings age 89 of Galax, Va. passed away Monday, February 2,2009 at Golden Living-Blue Ridge Nursing Home. Mr. Jennings was born on March 16, 1919 in Carroll County, Va. to William & Etta Melton Jennings. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Ruth Jennings and three brothers Earnest, Bernard and Wise Jennings. He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years Ruth Russell Jennings of Galax, Va.; sons & daughter-in-law Roger B. Jennings of Galax, Va. and Tony & Lesa Jennings of Hillsville, Va.; five grandchildren Marine Sergeant Trevor Jennings, Cody, Emily, Jennifer & Bryan Jennings; several nieces & nephews. He was a World War II veteran having received two purple hearts and other service awards. He was very active in the Hillsville VFW Post 1115 and the Moose Lodge as long as his health permitted him to do so. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Galax. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 2:00 pm in Vaughan-Guynn Chapel with Rev. Casey McKenna and Rev. Garry Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the Gladeville Cemetery with Military Rites by Hillsville VFW Post 1115. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from six until eight at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home.
