Howard Clifton Dowling age 79 of Fries, Virginia passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Mr. Dowling was born on November 20, 1930 in Grayson County, Virginia to Roby C. and Myrtle Williams Dowling.

He is survived by his wife Mozelle Newman Dowling of Fries, Va.; daughter and son-in-law Freida and Larry Bond of Troutdale, Va.; son Clifton Dowling and friend Denise Brinkley of Bear Creek, N.C.; step-daughter and husband Linda and Robert Pickett of Ivanhoe, Va.; brothers and sister-in-law Harlow and Deanie Dowling of Fries, Va.; Robert Dowling of Galax, Va.; sisters-in-law and spouses Winifred and Billy Jefferson of Chesapeake, Va.; Goldie and Paul Southern of Greensboro, N.C.; Agean Carter of Randleman, N.C.; Jane Newman and Cleo Dowling both of Fries, Va.; Shirley Dowling of Galax, Va.; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday, October 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in Providence Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from seven until nine at Liberty Hill United Methodist Church.
