Hershel Melvin Bilbrey, Jr. age 77 of Galax, Virginia passed way Tuesday, September 9, 2025 in the North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Melvin was born in Fries, Virginia on April 12, 1948 to Hershel Melvin and Joy Celesta Sumner Bilbrey, Sr.. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Alvin Bilbrey.

Melvin proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law Tina "Little Tina" and Billy Minger; Julie and Tim Tilley all of Galax, Virginia; brothers and sister-in-law Wilburn and Ellen Bilbrey of Fries, Virginia; Garold Bilbrey; Harry Bilbrey and Ravin Bilbrey all of Galax, Virginia; sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Jerry Edwards of Galax, Virginia; five grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend Michael Edwards.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Hope Church with Robby Redd officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family to help with the final expenses.
